Renfe AVE luggage allowance: how many bags, what size and extra bags (2026)
According to Renfe’s luggage page, checked on 31 October 2026, you can carry up to 3 pieces of hand luggage, as long as the three together do not exceed 25 kg or 290 cm, and the largest piece can measure up to 85x55x35 cm; Avlo trains have stricter rules.

How many bags
You can carry up to 3 pieces of hand luggage onto the train, provided that the sum of the three does not exceed 25 kg or 290 cm.
Please bear in mind that the luggage policy is stricter on Avlo trains.

Bikes, skis, pushchairs and instruments
Please note that you can only carry one special piece of luggage per person on board, accompanied by another piece of hand luggage, with maximum dimensions 55x35x25.

All bicycles and scooters folded in a cover are considered hand luggage as long as their dimensions do not add up to more than 180 cm between the three elements, and therefore will be accepted free of charge on all regular Renfe Viajeros (Renfe Passengers) services.

All folded or dismantled kick scooters (non-electric) and bicycles, placed inside a carrying case or bag whose total dimensions (length-height-width) amount to more than 180 cm, up to a maximum of 140x90x40 cm. (length-height-width).
Golf clubs, ski and sports fishing equipment must be carried in their corresponding bags and perfectly closed.
