NS International Eurocity Direct luggage allowance: how many bags, what size and extra bags (2026)
According to NS International’s luggage page, checked on 31 October 2026, the Eurocity Direct and EuroCity trains have no maximum size for luggage, but it must fit in the racks above the seats, under the seat, in the larger racks or, for large suitcases, in the vestibule; you cannot pay to bring extra luggage.
On the same page NS International gives a different rule for ICE trains (2 pieces of regular luggage + 1 piece of hand luggage, up to 85 × 85 × 85 cm), and it does not match Deutsche Bahn’s own luggage page (see our Deutsche Bahn page). If you take an ICE with a lot of luggage, check with the company that sold your ticket before you travel.
Train companies change their luggage rules, and staff on board decide when a train is full. We quote each company’s own pages word for word, with the date we checked them; the short summaries are ours. Your ticket and the company’s current page decide.
