Hamburg public transport: the fine, validation and contactless payment (2026)
According to hvv, the Hamburg transport association (tariff valid from 1 October 2026), checked on 31 October 2026, a passenger without a valid ticket must pay an increased fare of €60, also when caught leaving a vehicle or a fenced station area without one, and tickets that need validating must be stamped straight away.

(1) Der Fahrgast hat ein erhöhtes Beförderungsentgelt von 60 Euro zu zahlen, wenn er 1. sich keinen gültigen Fahrausweis beschafft hat 2. sich einen solchen beschafft hat, ihn aber bei der Prüfung nicht vorzeigt.

Das erhöhte Beförderungsentgelt ist auch dann zu zahlen, wenn jemand ein Fahrzeug ohne gültigen Fahrausweis oder ein abgegrenztes Bahngebiet ohne gültigen Fahrausweis verlässt.
Our translation: The increased fare must also be paid if someone leaves a vehicle or a fenced-off railway area without a valid ticket.
(2) Das erhöhte Beförderungsentgelt ermäßigt sich auf 7 Euro,

How to pay

Hierbei ist nur der Kauf von ausgewählten Tickets des Bartarifs gemäß Abschnitt 10 des hvv Gemeinschaftstarifs an entsprechend gekennzeichneten hvv Vertriebsgeräten an ausgewählten Haltestellen möglich. In Fahrzeugen mit Entwertern hat der Fahrgast den Fahrausweis entsprechend der Beförderungsstrecke unverzüglich zu entwerten und sich von der Entwertung zu überzeugen.
