Do Australians need a visa for the Solomon Islands?

We quote the official text word for word and do not summarise it. The first official sentence does not match a wording we summarise.

Official text, “Visas and border measures”:

Each country or territory decides its own entry and exit rules, including health border screening measures. To find out what you need to enter a destination, ask their embassy, consulate or immigration office.

Visas

You are now required to apply for a Tourist Visa before entering the Solomon Islands. The Tourist Visa costs USD100 to apply (and be granted) and requires individuals to submit a copy of their passport, travel itinerary, hotel booking and proof of funds. Once granted, the Tourist Visa is valid for up to 90 days. Extensions can be granted for an additional fee. Solomon Islands Immigration Division website (https://immigration.gov.sb/visas/) for more details.

The Australian High Commission has been advised by immigration officials that a temporary grace period is being applied while these new arrangements are implemented. During this period, you may still be able to obtain a Tourist Visa on arrival. The duration of the grace period has not been advised.

Entry and exit conditions can change at short notice. Contact the Solomon Islands High Commission for details about visas, currency, customs and quarantine rules.

To enter Solomon Islands, it's recommended that you have proof of vaccination against measles. Acceptable proof includes either:

  • a vaccine (yellow) card or other document which states the measles vaccine was administered at least 15 days before your arrival
  • a letter from your doctor stating you’ve had a measles blood test and the test shows you’re protected or immune from measles

If you don’t provide this evidence, you may be requested to report for an examination by medical authorities. Bring your official vaccination record with you.

How long must my Australian passport be valid for the Solomon Islands?

In its “Travel” section, Smartraveller gives no passport validity period specific to the Solomon Islands.

The official “Passport” text below is Smartraveller's general advice, the same on every destination page. Check the rule with the embassy of the country and with your airline before you travel.

Official text, “Passport”:

Validity

Many countries require your passport to be valid for at least 6 months before entering or departing. This includes for transit.

If your passport expires too soon, you might not be able to travel.

The Australian Government doesn’t make these rules. Check your passport’s expiry date before you go. If you’re not sure, it’s a good idea to get a new passport.

The same section also has Smartraveller's general notes (“Lost or stolen passport”, “Passport with ‘X’ gender identifier”), the same on every destination page: read them on the official page.
