Official text, “Visas and border measures”:
Each country or territory decides its own entry and exit rules, including health border screening measures. To find out what you need to enter a destination, ask their embassy, consulate or immigration office.
Visas
Make sure you meet all entry and exit conditions. If you don't, the Australian Government can’t help you.
If you're staying less than 60 days, a visa will be provided to you free of charge on arrival. For other types of visits, you'll need to apply for a visa before your travel at your nearest Mauritius embassy, High Commission or consulate.
If you need to extend your Tourist/Business visas or resident permits contact the Mauritian Passport and Immigration Office or by email on piovisa@govmu.org.
Entry and exit conditions can change at short notice. Contact your airline or your nearest embassy or consulate of Mauritius for details about the latest visa and entry requirements.

Ebola border measures
The Government of Mauritius has introduced border measures in response to the Ebola disease outbreak in parts of Africa. These include restrictions on entry and health screening checks for travellers who have recently visited DRC, Uganda or South Sudan:
- Non-Mauritian nationals that have travelled from DRC, Uganda or South Sudan within the preceding 21 days and that do not hold a valid work permit, residence permit, occupation permit, business, or student visa are not allowed to enter Mauritius
- Mauritian nationals, and non-Mauritians holding a valid work permit, residence permit, occupation permit, business visa or student visa who have travelled from, transited through, or been present in DRC, Uganda or South Sudan within the preceding 21 days will be permitted entry but will be subject to a 21-day mandatory quarantine.
Contact the Ministry of Health and Wellness Hotline on +230 8924 in Mauritius for further information.
The Mauritian Ministry of Health and Wellness advises Mauritian citizens and residents, which may include Australian citizens and dual nationals, to avoid non-essential travel to DRC and South Sudan.
Check the latest requirements with your airline or travel provider before travelling to Mauritius.
Yellow fever and Malaria
You should complete the Mauritius All-in-One Travel Digital Form either online before you travel or when you arrive at the airport.
If you're arriving from a country known to have malaria, you'll receive a follow-up call or visit from the Mauritian Health Department. You may be asked to do a blood test.
If you're travelling from a country where yellow fever is widespread, including transiting through an infected area or country with transmission risk, you may need a valid yellow fever certificate to enter Mauritius. This does not apply to a child aged under 12 months.

How long must my Australian passport be valid for Mauritius?
In its “Travel” section, Smartraveller gives no passport validity period specific to Mauritius.
The official “Passport” text below is Smartraveller's general advice, the same on every destination page. Check the rule with the embassy of the country and with your airline before you travel.
Official text, “Passport”:
Validity
Many countries require your passport to be valid for at least 6 months before entering or departing. This includes for transit.
If your passport expires too soon, you might not be able to travel.
The Australian Government doesn’t make these rules. Check your passport’s expiry date before you go. If you’re not sure, it’s a good idea to get a new passport.
The same section also has Smartraveller's general notes (“Lost or stolen passport”, “Passport with 'X' gender identifier”), the same on every destination page: read them on the official page.
