Do Australians need a visa for Georgia?

We quote the official text word for word and do not summarise it. The first official sentence does not match a wording we summarise.

Official text, “Visas”:

Each country or territory decides its own entry and exit rules, including health border screening measures. To find out what you need to enter a destination, ask their embassy, consulate or immigration office.

Visa-free travel for short stays

You can visit Georgia for up to 12 months without a visa if you have an Australian passport. You'll need a visa for longer stays.

Entry and exit requirements can change at short notice. Contact the Georgian Foreign Ministry or an embassy or consulate of Georgia for details about visas, currency, customs and quarantine rules.

Travelling with children

Children under 18 years travelling alone or with one parent may need a letter of consent from the non-travelling parent or parents.

They'll also need a copy of their birth certificate and passport.

Check requirements with an embassy or consulate of Georgia before travelling.

Consider updating your child’s passport photo if it no longer matches their current appearance, as Georgian authorities may question, delay, or deny entry.

Borders

We advise against all travel to the North Caucasus region of Russia due to the high threat of terrorist activity. See our travel advice for Russia.

It's illegal to enter Georgia via Abkhazia or South Ossetia.

How long must my Australian passport be valid for Georgia?

In its “Travel” section, Smartraveller gives no passport validity period specific to Georgia.

The official “Passport” text below is Smartraveller's general advice, the same on every destination page. Check the rule with the embassy of the country and with your airline before you travel.

Official text, “Passport”:

Validity

Many countries require your passport to be valid for at least 6 months before entering or departing. This includes for transit.

If your passport expires too soon, you might not be able to travel.

The Australian Government doesn’t make these rules. Check your passport’s expiry date before you go. If you’re not sure, it’s a good idea to get a new passport.

If you are travelling with children, consider updating your child’s passport photo if it no longer matches their current appearance, as Georgian authorities may question, delay, or deny entry.

The same section also has Smartraveller's general notes (“Lost or stolen passport”, “Passport with X gender identifier”), the same on every destination page: read them on the official page.
