Do Australians need a visa for Belize?

We quote the official text word for word and do not summarise it. The first official sentence does not match a wording we summarise.

Official text, “Visas and border measures”:

Each country or territory decides its own entry and exit rules, including health border screening measures. To find out what you need to enter a destination, ask their embassy, consulate or immigration office.

Due to the outbreak of Ebola disease in parts of Africa, if you've been in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda or South Sudan before arrival in Belize, you may be subject to health screening and quarantine.

Following the hijacking of a small passenger aircraft on 17 April 2025, the Belize Department of Civil Aviation has announced enhanced security measures are being implemented at all local airports. You should arrive early at airports to allow enough time for security procedures.

Belize has an online immigration and customs declaration system. You will need to complete and submit an entry form before travelling to Belize. You can access the e-form via the Belize Tourism Board.

Tourist visas

Australians don't need a visa for visits of less than 30 days.

If you stay more than 30 days in Belize, the local immigration office must re-stamp your passport and you will pay a fee.

Entry and exit conditions can change. Contact Belize Immigration or your nearest Embassy, Consulate or High Commission of Belize for the latest details about visas, currency, customs and quarantine rules.

You may need extra documents if only one parent or guardian is travelling with a child. Contact your nearest Embassy, Consulate or High Commission of Belize to confirm this.

Yellow fever vaccination

All travellers over the age of 1 arriving or transiting countries with a risk of yellow fever need a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate to enter Belize. Some airlines may want to see one when you leave.

How long must my Australian passport be valid for Belize?

In its “Travel” section, Smartraveller gives no passport validity period specific to Belize.

The official “Passport” text below is Smartraveller's general advice, the same on every destination page. Check the rule with the embassy of the country and with your airline before you travel.

Official text, “Passport”:

Validity

Many countries require your passport to be valid for at least 6 months before entering or departing. This includes for transit.

If your passport expires too soon, you might not be able to travel.

The Australian Government doesn’t make these rules. Check your passport’s expiry date before you go. If you’re not sure, it’s a good idea to get a new passport.

The same section also has Smartraveller's general notes (“Lost or stolen passport”, “Passport with ‘X’ gender identifier”), the same on every destination page: read them on the official page.
